Class Description: Social Studies and Creative Thought is a 10-week course dedicated to exploring social science theories that are used to explain phenomena and human interaction. Students will be encouraged to read, discuss and identify areas of interest in conducting a mini research project. Topics discussed include: Intersectionality, Critical Race Theory, Johari's Window of Self-Disclosure and more. Students will be encouraged to draw from their personal interests and experiences to make connections, form queries and develop theories based on observation and research.
By the end of the course:
-Students will be able to compare and contrast theories and use life experiences and observations to discuss their relevance;
-Students will be able to construct a sound thesis statement;
-Students will be able to conduct an interview to gather qualitative data for a research paper.
